Opening Salvo

For those of you that know me, ignore the next few lines. My name is Charles Ramsdell and I am a professional basketball player in Spain. I play for a team that you have never heard of unless you play professional basketball in Spain. I live in Avila, it is a city midway between Madrid and Salamanca, a little over an hour each way. It is situated perfectly along the railroad line which makes for very easy trips over the weekends. I attended the University of Tulsa and majored in Modern American History and minored in Political Science and Education.
I'm not really sure what this blog is or what it will turn into. The funtion it is performing at the moment is as a forum for me to be able to write something. I am currently working on a novel, of which I am far too insecure to describe, and by doing more writing outside of that one subject I hope to improve my writing. Writers write and I want to be a writer. I'm sure I'll talk about basketball because that is what dominates my life right now but it isn't what I want my life to be about. I love the game so much but I really feel that after basketball, and perhaps during, I can achieve so much else. One thing about being a professional basketball player is that there is an amazing abundance of downtime. You can only practice so many hours before the work becomes detrimental to the health of the body. Lately and much too often I have been spending this downtime watching movies and tv shows on my laptop and generally wasting time on the internet. However, I shouldn't knock that too much because if you are reading this then you are probably just wasting time on the internet. Hopefully this will prove to be a much more productive outlet for myself. I find that if I force the writing on my novel I can't really think of anything to write, I get most of my writing done for it just on moments of inspiration that turn into three hours of non stop scribbling or typing. This will be an easier forum to just write what I want.
So let's hope you enjoy it, let's hope it's fun, and let's hope that someone out there is reading it.
